Banov Architecture and Construction, Inc. has been selected to
design and build a new school for Sebastian Charter Junior High to
replace the modular building occupied since the school’s inception
in 2000. We are inviting you to be involved in this
transformation. The new school is designed to reflect the character
of the Sebastian community, using metal roofing and cupolas. A
school bell is incorporated into the entry feature, giving the
building a traditional symbol of a school, while presenting a modern
image to appeal to the students. The new campus will serve 240
students with 12 classrooms, including computer and science labs, a
media center, administrative offices and a multi-purpose cafeteria.
At the center of the school will be a landscaped courtyard for
recreation and outdoor activities. The design will focus on energy
efficiency, sustainability and indoor air quality to create a
high-performing “green” school. Sebastian Charter Junior High will
continue to attract middle school students seeking a unique
educational approach in this attractive new campus.
Charter Schools are part of a sweeping nationwide educational reform
that places the highest priority on providing a quality education.
Charter schools are tuition-free public schools with operating
expenses funded through government sources based on student
enrollment. Major capital projects for charter schools are funded
by the individual schools primarily through private sources and
traditional fundraising. Sebastian Charter Junior High is currently
pursuing a USDA-backed loan to finance the major portion of the
construction budget of this new school. They are seeking private
donations and grants to fund the balance. Every dollar spent
through the charter school system is focused on furthering each
student’s education. SCJH is governed privately by a volunteer Board
of Directors, and is a non-profit, 501(c)3 corporation. Unlike
traditional public schools, charter schools must demonstrate
success, or they will lose their charter. SCJH is an “A” school and
consistently graduates well-prepared students on to high school.
Please help SCJH continue with this success.
